VAN PERSIE BEATS SUAREZ TO UEFA NOMINATION

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been nominated for a place in Uefa's 2013 Team of the Year but Liverpool 's Luis Suarez has missed out.

Suarez has added to last seaon's tally of 23 Premier League with a further nine scored in eight matches since returning from suspension this campaign. The Uruguay international was banned for 10 matches after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April.

Despite that impressive goalscoring
return, Suarez's name has been omitted from a list of 12 attacking players in line for a spot in Uefa's Team of the Year. Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, Borussia Dortmund's Robert
Lewandowski, and Falcao of Monaco are among the forwards up for the prize.

Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid, Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of PSG are the three favourites to win a place in Uefa's best XI. FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez, Thomas Muller and Mario Madzukic of Bayern
Munich and Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa are also in contention. Manchester City and United are represented by Sergio Aguero and van Persie respectively.
