AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi believes
that AC Milan have made such a
spluttering start to the season because he
has not played an active a role in the
running of the club this season.
After Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Livorno,
the Rossoneri are in ninth place in Serie
A, a massive 22 points behind leaders
Juventus and more importantly, 14 points
out of the last Champions League places.
As a result Berlusconi has pledged to
spend more time at the San Siro in order
to help Massimiliano Allegri’s side through
this rough patch.
“When I am not dealing with AC
Milan, they go wrong,” the club’s
honorary president told the
Corriere dello Sport.
“Last year, after a disastrous
start, I was more interested in
Milan and we nabbed third place.
I believe the team need extra
care today, too.”
The irony in Berlusconi’s comments is that
despite their poor domestic form, Milan
can seal a place in the knockout stages of
the Champions League if they avoid
defeat at home to Ajax on Wednesday
night. With the chasm between Milan in
ninth and Napoli in 3rd, it might take the
Rossoneri wining another European Cup
for them to compete in the Champions
League next season.
