The uncertainty over Wayne Rooney's future looks set to be resolved in the New Year as Manchester United prepare to offer a £52 million deal to keep the in- form forward at Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, the 28-year-old's blistering start to the season has convinced United's money men to match his £250,000-a-week wages in a fresh four-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2018.
Not only that, Rooney will have an
incentive package included based on appearances, goals and honours. Rooney's future was subject to much speculation in the summer, with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho filing bids of
£30m and £35m - both of which were rejected, with United chief executive Ed Woodward describing the former Everton youngster as "irreplaceable and phenomenal to watch".
Rooney, who will line up for England against germany on tuesday tonight, wanted a new
challenge after falling out with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. But he settled his differences with new manager
David Moyes and has been in some of the best form of his career this season.
"I've said all along that I just want to play football and I feel I've started the season well," Rooney said. "I've scored a few goals and I'm creating chances for my
teammates, too. I'm enjoying that."
