Manchester United are poised to sign Everton left-back Leighton Baines for £16 million when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports in the mirror.
Baines has been a long-term target for United, with both previous manager Sir Alex Ferguson and predecessor David Moyes keen to secure the services of the 29-year-old.
Moyes worked extensively with Baines during his tenure at Everton, but only secured Marouane Fellaini's signature
when he attempted a swoop for both players during the summer.
However, United look set to sign the defender in January and see him as a long-term successor to Patrice Evra, who is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
It is a position that Moyes is adamant needs strengthening; the club were denied a loan move for Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao on transfer deadline day.
