Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is ready to snub interest from Everton in favour of a move to Merseyside rivals Liverpool , according to the Daily Express.
Everton have been long term admirers of Onazi, and Roberto Martinez made his interest known with a summer bid. However Lazio rejected the offer, as well as bids from both Wolfsburg and Hertha
Berlin.
However, the 20-year-old has continued to impress in Serie A, and looks likely to depart in January following interest from
both Fiorentina and Liverpool.
Liverpool were understood to have sent scouts to watch Onazi in action for Nigeria against Italy at Craven Cottage on Monday night, while Everton remain keen to sign
the midfielder who has been likened to former Bolton star Jay Jay Okocha.
Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has already tried to secure first option on the young midfielder, should Lazio try and
sell. However the Rome club have rejected their advances, and will want at least £6million for the youngster in January.
Roberto Martinez remains desperate to strengthen his Everton side when the transfer window opens, after a promising
start to the season which sees the
Toffees sit in sixth place with 20 points from their opening 11 games.
But the Everton boss will no doubt have been left disappointed by the quotes made by Onazi recently, claiming he could see himself playing for bitter rivals Liverpool.
“I would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League,” he said.
“Liverpool? They are a huge team and are attractive to any footballer. I could see myself playing for them.”
