Man City striker Alvaro Negredo has
admitted that everything he had heard
about the Premier League prior to leaving
Sevilla is true, and the first thing he did
after agreeing to join Manuel Pellegrini at
the Etihad Stadium was buy an umbrella,
according to The Guardian .
Alvaro Negredo
The Spanish international may have
experienced an unexpectedly decent first
winter in England thus far, but the hectic
fixture schedule means he hasn’t done
too much exploring just yet – but with a
four year contract under his belt, the 28-
year-old has plenty of time to take in the
sights.
He has settled well into the Premier
League, and his partnership with Sergio
Aguero has seen City scoring goals for fun
in recent weeks. Negredo is loving life in
the blue half of Manchester, saying:
“Most of what I had heard about the
Premier League turns out to be true. You
look at it from outside and think: "OK,
I've got my expectations" but then you
actually come here and see what it means
to people and to be playing in it and you
suddenly realise: 'Wow, my expectations
need to go up here!' That is what I am
trying to do and I am enjoying it.”
With a World Cup fast approaching in
Brazil next summer, Negredo hopes that
he can match the form he produced
during his final season with Seville, which
saw him bag 31 goals. He missed out on
the tournament in South Africa 2010, but
his 10 goals from 19 caps certainly show
he can cut it on an international level. He
admits, however, that he does not mind
battling for his place in the City team.
“Competition is good. I like to set myself
challenges. I am really happy with the
time I am getting on the pitch and
hopefully it will carry on like this but I
don't have a problem with fighting for my
place in the team.”
