KEANE RULES OUT ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE RETURN

Keane rules out Premier League return
LA Galaxy and Republic of Ireland
striker Robbie Keane has ruled out
returning to the Premier League on
loan in January, citing an achilles
injury.
Keane, 33, this week verbally agreed a
new two-year deal with the American
franchise, having won the MLS Cup in
2011 and 2012.
The former Tottenham striker scored
three goals in six appearances during a
loan spell at Aston Villa from Galaxy in
January 2012, but Keane has ruled out
returning to England this time around due
to an achilles injury.
“With the Achilles injury I have had, I
wouldn’t think so,” Keane was quoted as
saying by the Herald. “I have been
speaking to the doctor here and I will sit
down in the next week and see where we
go.
“I may have to get a clean out, or maybe
do rehab to make sure that it doesn’t
come back.”
Despite LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena
previously asking for the striker to be
omitted from international duty so as he
can play for his club, Keane says he new
contract will not affect him from playing
for his country.
“It never has and I would never let
anybody put me in that situation.
“I haven’t signed it yet but it is verbally
agreed, two and possibly three years. I
am excited about that, it shows you how
much faith they have in me to give me
that contract.
“Usually when you hit the 30 mark you
get a one-year rolling contract to see how
you are so it goes to show the faith they
have in me to give me that contract, and
I will play on as long as I feel healthy and
fit.
“At the moment I feel good, I have a few
niggles which I have had in the past and I
will look at that, the time I’ll have off will
be good for me to do that, but I will
continue as long as I can.”
