CITY SUFFER FRESH KOMPANY SET-BACK

Manchester City manager Manuel
Pellegrini may look to sign a defender
in the January transfer window after
Vincent Kompany’s comeback from a
groin injury was again delayed.
The Belgium defender suffered the
problem on 5 October in the 3-1 win over
Everton, and Pellegrini had hoped to have
his captain available for the Champions
League game against Viktoria Plzen on 27
November.
However, Belgium team doctor Lieven
Maesschalck confirmed that he may
require eight weeks to recover from his
thigh injury, and the City doctors now
think even that prognosis is optimistic.
Asked whether he might go into the
transfer market if the Belgium centre-
back fails to recover soon, the City
manager said: "You used the word 'if' but
we have to wait and see. Let’s see what
happens in December, but we hope
Vincent can continue in a normal way until
the end of the season.
"We are doing all the things we need to in
order to understand why he has so many
injuries, but you must ask the doctor. I’m
not a doctor. I talk with him, but I can’t
tell you the opinion. All I can say is he
might be ready to join in working with the
rest of the players in another week or
so."
