AGUERO SETS SIGHTS ON LATTER STAGES OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

City's Sergio Aguero, who has probably
been their best player of the season so
far, says that the club now hopes to reach
the latter stages of the competition. He is
aware of the difficulties that lay ahead of
City, as they venture into a new world.
Speaking to City's official website, he said:
"We've qualified from the group stages
and hopefully we can go further. I think
we have an excellent squad to progress in
the Champions League but we know that
it will be difficult.
"We will just wait and see what team we
play in the next round and do our best to
progress."
City's poor away from in the league has
not been a problem for them in Europe.
Their two consecutive victories in the last
two away matches have been enough to
seal their progression. They still trail
leaders Bayern Munich by three points,
and they still retain the dimmest hope of
edging past the current champions to
finish top of the group.
Meanwhile, Aguero has simply been
excellent for City this season. He seems
to have found the goal scoring form that
City would have expected when they paid
£38 million for him in 2011. He already
has 14 goals in just 16 matches and it is
impressive even without mentioning the
six assists he has created.
This good form is also important for
Aguero personally since it gives him a
great chance to be in the Argentina squad
for the World Cup 2014. Competition for
places is intense especially in the striker's
role, but Aguero is expected to be on the
plane to Brazil.
