Spurs started the game brightly, with Paulinho and Andros Townsend combining to help bring pressure early on against the Magpies keeper Tim Krul, with shots from Roberto Soldado and Kyle Walker being handled superbly.
But it was Newcastle who broke the
deadlock after 13 minutes, with Loic Remy gliding around Brad Friedel to poke in the final shot.
Yoan Goufrran was a key man for Alan Pardew's men today, helping to disposese Paulinho in the middle of the park and thread a pass through to Remy for the all important goal.,whilst tim krul made 14 saves in the encounter!
Hugo Lloris was again missing from the Tottenham squad after being knocked unconscious at Everton last weekend as manager Andre Villas-Boas made five changes to his side for the visit of Newcastle.
He was rested for Thursday's Europa League win over Sheriff Tiraspol, with Villas-Boas claiming afterwards that he would return for the Premier League clash against the Magpies.
But he was not named in the matchday squad as Brad Friedel once again deputised and Heurelho Gomes was named as the substitute goalkeeper.
Jermain Defoe was also dropped to the bench despite becoming the club's all- time leading European goalscorer with a penalty against Sheriff, while Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches also returned for the hosts.
Pardew named the same starting XI which recorded a 2-0 win over Chelsea last weekend.
